Neuromuscular Therapy was originated in the 1930's by Boris
Chaitow and Stanley Leif (a British osteopath and chiropractor.)
This deep tissue massage is applied with concentrated
finger
pressure to individual muscles with slow cross fiber strokes. Fingers,
thumbs and elbows may be used for this very detailed approach.
This technique helps to break the cycle of spasm and
pain and is
often used in pain control. It stimulates increased blood flow, releases
trigger points, and resets the muscle length.
It can assist in postural reintegration and improves joint mobility.
It can either stimulate or
sedate, creating a balance between the sympathetic and para sympathetic
nervous systems.
It also encourages lymph drainage and breaks up
deposits and congestion throughout the body.
This can be utilized as both a diagnostic and therapeutic tool.
